Loved the Trecartin review—hilarious. The McCarthy one confused me because you say he is bad at painting but then seem to say only good things about the painting pictures (which I happen to like)…? I believe you I just need specificity!! And maybe I’m a hater but I find your negative reviews deeply satisfying. Fuck shiny plastic art.
The McCarthy one's don't gel for me. They're fun but the pinks and fleshtones kind of all merge together in a way and feel out of the box and generally vague about how all the figures relates. The grotesque/perverse subject matter in his drawings and performances kind of gets reduced to little glyphs of penises or such. They also feel generically expressionist or Guston-y where the rest of his work feels definitively him. The paintings aren't terrible, they just seem like the least satisfying vehicle for what he's doing.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek and didn’t mean plastic in the material sense which you probably gathered. But ya I have trouble with the genre
